General description

The XVIIIth International Symposium on Mathematical Methods Applied to the Sciences (XVIII SIMMAC)  is the most important event in applied mathematics in Central America. It is organized by the Center for Research in Pure and Applied Mathematics (CIMPA) of the University of Costa Rica every two years, with the support of the  School of Mathematics.

Since 1978, this activity has been developped with the participation of several mathematicians and scientists of affine disciplines, coming from Central America, Europe, North America and South America.

Registration to the SIMMAC begins on Monday 20th at 2 p.m., at the Physic-Mathematic building. Registration on Tuesday opens at 8 a.m.

XVIII SIMMAC will take place from February 21th to 24th, 2012.

Place

The  XVIII SIMMAC will be held at the "Rodrigo Facio" campus of the University of Costa Rica, in San Pedro, near San Jose, the capital of the country.

Arrival of international attendants should be at International Juan Santamaria Airport (code SJO). On Monday 15th, there might be a University shuttle, which you can take. If you miss it, pleas take an Airport taxi (orange color), price might be $20 to $25 to San José downtown, depending on the taximeter.

Sessions will take place in the Physic-Mathematic building (Edificio de Físico-Matemática), 1st floor.

In February, climate in Costa Rica is cool (17 degees C 23 degrees C, 62 degrees F 74 degrees F) in San Jose and warm on the coast (20 degeres C 26 degrees C, 68 degrees F 80 degrees F), sunny, and sometimes windy. Usually, it does not rain in this period.
